We have a huge amount of artistic and craft talent in our area, and one organistaion – Artmap Argyll, have got together to give you a ‘route’ to follow! They say…
“Find the Artists living amongst Scotlands best National Nature Reserves and Ancient Historical sites Artmap argyll – an opportunity not to be missed on this 6th Annual Open studios event.
Where do artists find their inspiration? From a wind-swept walk across the hills? From delving into the inner soul, or from responding directly to paint, ink, stone or textile?”
Some of them are in Port Appin, – Port Appin Studio which is 2 miles away and is run by –
Port Appin Studio is run by local artists Midge and Alex Gourlay who live and work in Port Appin, Argyll. The studio specialises in Scottish landscape paintings, textile arts and fine art giclée prints.
another is katy Spong who lives about 6 miles away, and she says
“Since moving to the west coast of Scotland in 2007 my paintings and prints have been an exploration of my new place. Living by the sea I am drawn to movement, the constant change in activity both human and animal. This is particularly revealed in the birdlife of the bay. Birds make powerful subjects. My paintings draw very largely on the cumulative experience of looking and the memory of observed moments. These moments that nature provides in and around the environment of Cuil Bay are the subject of my latest series of paintings. Nature happens around us all the time, it is getting on with its own business, often surprising and unannounced. The unexpected frequently stops me in my tracks and reminds me how precious our environment is”
tempted to explore the Argyll Art Map yet… I am!
